Newsletter June 2018

The Hackney Matters Website

Welcome to new panel members who have recently joined the Hackney Matters panel. A special thanks to  our existing members who have re-registered onto the Hackney Matters website. By joining the panel website, you can take part in different activities such as online discussion and quick polls.  As a thank you for your time, you will be able to earn points which you can redeem for vouchers.

We launched the website on 3rd April 2018, so we are still in the process of getting all our existing members moved onto the new system.  Due to the new GDPR compliance (https://www.eugdpr.org), we are required to request that you create new passwords for your account. This is to ensure that all your data is protected during the transition.  GDPR also requires us to remove and delete your personal data should you decide to no longer be a part of Hackney Matters, so if you do decide that you want to unsubscribe then please contact us at consultation@hackney.gov.uk.

Competition

Are you a budding photographer?

As Summer is almost upon us, it seems fitting to make the competition about this, so the theme will be “Spring/Summer in Hackney”.  Please send in your most artistic photos of Hackney.

The Hackney Matters Team will judge the photos at the end of June and we will pick one winner who will receive a £20 Love2Shop voucher, and will have their photo published in the next newsletter.

To take part, send your photos with a short description to: consultation@hackney.gov.uk with the subject “June Photo Competition”.

Good Luck!

Have Your Say - Give us your views on how much sugary drinks you consume

Sugar Smart Hackney would like to understand current sugary drinks consumption habits of those who have pledged to give up sugary drinks for a fortnight as part of Hackney’s #DitchTheFizz campaign.

The information collected will be used to inform the work of Sugar Smart Hackney, a joint initiative of Hackney Public Health and Hackney Food Partnership funded by Hackney Council and Sustainable Food Cities.

It will help them know how to help people in Hackney make more informed decisions on what they choose to drink and how healthier low or no sugar drinks, including tap water, can be better promoted.

Are you ready to #DitchTheFizz? If so, click here to take part by 30 June, and once you complete the survey your name will be entered in a prize draw to win one of two Leon recipe book and one of two £20 shopping vouchers to be used at your choice of Amazon, John Lewis or iTunes.

For more information, please contact Jerry Hill by email jerry.hill@hackney.gov.uk, or by telephone 020 8356 1807.

Event - Shape local health and care services with the FREE Let’s Talk event - 26 June 2018

Residents can have their say on plans for health and care in Hackney while hearing more about local services at the free Let’s Talk event.

In partnership with the Council and The City of London, the City and Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Let’s Talk event will give attendees an opportunity to drop in and share their thoughts and opinions about how local services can be shaped and improved.

Residents will also be able to find out more about how designing services which are joined up across health and care, known as Integrated Commissioning, can improve outcomes for local people.

Attendees can drop into Let’s Talk any time on 26 June between 4.30 and 8pm.

Let’s Talk will be taking place at Amnesty International Human Rights Centre, 17–25 New Inn Yard, Shoreditch, EC2A 3EA

Event - Hearing SEND Voices - 26 June 2018

Residents, parents and professionals with an interest in special educational needs are invited to a roundtable discussion about funding.

Cllr Chris Kennedy, who recently took on the SEND brief, will host the event, which is aimed at finding out about residents’ experiences of SEND provision and their ideas for what services might look like in the future, in the face of ongoing Government funding freezes for these vital services.

The event  will be held in a central Hackney location on 26 June, from 6.30-8pm. Those taking part will be asked to discuss key issues in small groups in a ‘roundtable’ setting. Their feedback will help to shape Council policies around SEND and will also inform the work of a new SEND working group

The group will be led by an independent Chair, with representatives from parents’ groups, campaign groups, councillors, teachers and other professionals. Their first meeting is expected to be in July. It is hoped that this group will develop recommendations about the way services are provided and funded in mainstream schools, to ensure the Council can continue to adequately fund high quality services for young people. The recommendations will be consulted on towards the end of the year.

We Need Volunteers - Can you help promote Hackney Matters at our upcoming events?

  • Do you like to volunteer and help out?

  • Can you spare a few hours to promote and get new members signed up to Hackney Matters?

  • Would you like to be rewarded with a £20 Love2Shop voucher for your time?

If you answer Yes to all those questions, then please register your interest by clicking here.

NB: Depending on the number of requests we receive, we will randomly choose 2 to 3 members for each event.  If you are not chosen straight away, do not worry as we have many events happening throughout the year so there will be plenty of opportunities to help out in the future.

Upcoming Events Calendar for Volunteers
