About Hackney Matters
Hackney Matters is the name for Hackney’s new online citizens’ panel of local people. The panel is a group of people who are regularly asked for their views. In addition to the current ways that we collect feedback and opinions from local people, we are trying something new and exciting. We value residents’ views, but realise that we don’t always get to hear from people in all our communities. That’s why we’ve set up a panel of 1000 people from all walks of life to tell us what they think about living in Hackney.
Why the panel is important
Hackney’s elected Mayor, Philip Glanville is committed to involving the community in what the Council does. He and his colleagues on the Cabinet will be looking closely at feedback from the panel and making sure that it is used to deliver better services that meet Hackney people’s needs. Panel members will also regularly get to hear about how their views have made a difference.
What will the panel do?
We know that crime, clean streets, the local neighbourhood and activities for young people are just some of the things that matter to local people. We care about them too, so expect those to be some of the topics we ask about over the coming year. When we look at issues that the Council doesn’t deal with alone, we will work with and pass on overall results and feedback to local organisations such as the health service, police, education and housing providers.
What will it involve?
You can expect various activities to take part in, such as quick polls, online focus groups, pinboards, group talks, and much more. We will also invite you to focus groups where you will sit down with other panelists and get the chance to discuss and give your views on a certain topic.
How much you get involved is completely up to you!
How do we thank you?
We’ll let you know about what we’ve done with your feedback through monthly e-newsletters. We appreciate the commitment shown by panel members and for this reason, every member who takes part in an activity will automatically earn points which they can redeem for Digital Prepaid Mastercard or Love2Shop vouchers/gift cards (Find out more).
The more you put in, the more you earn!
How do people join the panel?
For the first time, we have launched a major campaign across Hackney which aims to get more residents to be part of the panel. By recruiting in this way we can ensure the panel will reflect all corners of the community.
Panel members’ contact details and responses will be kept secure and confidential. They will only be used by Council research and consultation staff or approved research organisations working for us. Information provided will only be used for panel related activities: research, consultation, invites to events and newsletters and information about the panel.
